Currarong sewerage scheme
Background and Overview
Currarong Village residents are to be provided with a reticulated sewer collection scheme to replace existing septic tanks. An assessment process narrowed the options down to two: A traditional gravity system or a pressure system. You can find out more by reading Sewerage Collection Systems Compared - Pressure systems.
Over the last few years extensive consultation with the community has been conducted which has generated lively debate. Construction of the scheme is planned to commence in August 2008, following the approval by the State Government to let the tender.
Objectives
The main objectives for this upgrade are to improve the system of sewerage collection and treatment for the village of Currarong. Perhaps just as important given the dry Australian climate, another major objective is to connect Currarong into the Reclaimed Water Management Scheme (REMS) that will provide vital irrigation to farms and recreational facilities around the region.
