Berry sewerage scheme upgrade
Background and overview
In 2005 the original Berry Sewerage Scheme celebrated its 30th birthday. Over the last 30 years sewage treatment technology and standards have improved which means that an upgrade was called for to bring the scheme in line with these new standards. Work began on the scheme upgrade in 2000.
Current status
The new treatment plant upgrade was completed in late 2005. In addition a major pumping station has been significantly upgraded and three other pumping stations are currently being upgraded.
The new facilities will improve the quality of water released back into the environment and will make more re-claimed water available for use on local farms and sporting fields.
