Sussex Inlet reclaimed water scheme
Background and overview
Sussex Inlet is one of the most popular holiday destinations on the South Coast. The area has experienced continued growth as well as dramatic population increases during the Summer and Easter holidays.
In order to plan for the future sewerage and reclaimed water management needs of the community, the Shoalhaven Water Group of Shoalhaven City Council, in conjunction with the Department of Energy, Utilities and Sustainability, have completed studies to improve the Sussex Inlet Sewerage Scheme.
Objectives
To provide infrastructure that:
- caters for the short and long term needs of the community
- re-uses reclaimed water wherever viable and appropriate
- safely returns excess reclaimed water to the environment
Current status
The pipeline distributing the reclaimed water to the Thompson Street Reserve for sporting grounds irrigation has been completed and operating successfully.
