Register a backflow prevention device

Backflow prevention devices must be registered with us and tested annually to ensure the device is working correctly. Registration provides assurance that a device has been installed correctly and is working to protect our water supply.

Under current regulation of the Plumbing Code of Australia and Australian Standards, it is the responsibility of the property owner or managing agent to:

  • Register new device/s with us, and
  • Provide ongoing annual test and maintenance reports.

Steps to register

What you need

To register a new device, or to provide an annual test report, you must:

Step 1.Engage an accredited backflow prevention plumber to test each device.

Looking for an accredited plumber? See our list of accredited backflow prevention plumbers that have volunteered their details.

Step 2.Obtain a test report/s from the accredited plumber.

How to register

To complete the registration of a device, the property owner or authorised agent must:

Step 1.Forward copies of test and maintenance reports by email.

Step 2.Pay relevant Council registration fees

Please note: Failure to comply with registration is an offence and will incur late fees every four-week period for each device overdue until receipt of appropriate certification.
