Drinking water quality

Our water filtration plants adhere to strict filtration targets ensuring water quality is tested and monitored at every stage of the supply system, and this includes our catchments, treatment facilities, and the distribution pipes right up to your taps.

We are dedicated to providing safe and reliable drinking water. Our water supply is regularly tested throughout our network, with independent NATA certified laboratories conducting the analysis in line with the 2011 Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.

Shoalhaven Water is committed to ongoing testing for PFAS within our main sources of water, the Shoalhaven River (Bamarang Dam), Porters Creek Dam and Kangaroo Valley (Bendeela Pondage). All results received revealed ‘nil detectable’ PFAS and can be viewed in the drinking water test results below.

Fluoride

Shoalhaven Water add fluoride to our drinking water to help reduce tooth decay in children and adults. Good dental health is important for overall health and wellbeing.

The taste and smell of drinking water does not change as a result of water fluoridation because the type of fluoride used has no taste or smell.

For more information visit NSW Health - Fluoridation of drinking water.

Water hardness

The water in the Shoalhaven measures around 50 milligrams per litre of calcium carbonate and is considered 'soft'.

The government standard average is 200mg.
