Apply for multiple occupancy discharge approval

Shoalhaven Water is responsible for assessing business activities and issuing approvals for discharging liquid trade waste into Council's sewerage system.

On review of an application, we will assess the proposed activities and if satisfied all pre-treatment requirements have been met, we will issue an approval. If tenancy is unknown prior to approval, consideration should be given to provision of appropriate pre-treatment for potential future use.

If you are leasing a property to conduct your business, you must obtain the land owner's consent prior to applying for approval to discharge liquid trade waste into our sewerage system.

Steps to apply

Before you start

Step 1.Understand your pre-treatment requirements

Before you make an application, make sure you understand the pre-treatment requirements relevant to the business activities onsite. In most situations, waste streams generated by different activities must not be combined prior to pre-treatment.

As a guide, multiple occupancy developments such as shopping centres require individual pre-treatment equipment. Businesses could include, but not limited to:

  • Food providers (e.g. grease arrestors, can be shared between food businesses)
  • Laundromats (e.g. lint screens, cooling pits)
  • Mechanical workshops (e.g. oily water separators)
  • Supermarkets (e.g. grease arrestors, extractors)

Depending on the individual activities, a variety of equipment may be required.

Step 2.Have your documentation ready to upload

To complete this application you will need to attach:

  • Relevant hydraulic plans and pre-treatment equipment specifications (as appropriate)
  • A copy of the land owners consent (if property is leased)
